Needed to use the clutch alot in icy conditions recently...now I get a rattle noise when the clutch is engaged. My brother believes it could be a loose cable or lack of fluid...Any ideas?

The clutch throw out bearing can make that noise. I also wish to say that noises are difficult to properly diagnose from cyberspace and you may wish to get the opinion of a knowledgeable BMW tech who can be there with you to hear your noise and give you an honest, close-up opinion. When you disassemble the car to repair this issue, be sure to inspect the flywheel and replace the pivot pin.
