Engine Mechanical problem
2003 BMW X5 6 cyl All Wheel Drive Automatic 60k miles

Recently brought in our x5 for mainteance (heater was not working) and were told we needed the following for the heater as well as for an oil leak:
FINAL STAGE FOR BLOWER REPAIR.$520.00
SEPARATOR VALVE.$1375.00
VLAVE COVER GASKET.$575.00
DRIVE BELTS.$230.00
2 FRONT TIRES.$632.00
THRUST ROD BUSHINGS.$730.00
TOTAL FOR ALL REPAIRS IS $4062.00+ TAX

1. Is this an honest cost for the needed repairs 2. Seeing as the maintenace/repair costs on this car are starting to skyrocket we are considering a new vehicle purchase. Are we better doing the repairs or not if we decide to get rid of the car?
thnx

To be straight about a choice between keeping and selling would depend on what you want. I would start with possibly considering another repair facility to trust for these repairs. The final stage is an hour at most to diagnose and install and it only costs $117.74.
The possibility exists that your vehicle is worth keeping, please keep in mind that you have chosen a high maintenance vehicle and there are those out there that know this, and will prey on you. Beware. If you presented a vehicle to be repaired for the fan issue and then were told of the subsequent problems, and were pressured into the repairs, let me know, we can discuss options.
