Hi,

I have a 1990 BMW 750il, 12v, with 170K miles. White smoke is coming out of the tail pipe! The car doesn't over heat, there is no water in the oil, and the coolant is clean as well. The car doesn't smoke at start up, it starts smoking after driving about 3 or 4 blocks and then I have to turn the car off because the smoke is so bad. And I noticed that lately when the car is smoking I smell gas more than usual.

I've taken it to 3 places, the first shop said it could be a blown head gasket, the second shop said, it could be the valves, and the last shop thinks it could the be the OSV.

Any ideas on what the problem could be? I would greatly appreciate any advice you could give me.

Thanks so much,

Stacey

White smoke from the tailpipe can indicate a leak of coolant into the combustion chamber(s) It can also mean fuel that did not get burned in the combustion process. At 170k miles many things happen and it could have one or more injectors allowing too much fuel or an electrical "gremlin". This sounds like a job for a BMW expert. Tell me where you are and I will try to guide you to someone that will help. Dr. Hagerty
