2001 BMW 325 59000 miles

Today while the car was running while parked, it started to vibrate under the hood and all of a sudden the service engine light came on. So once I proceeded to head towards home you could feel the vibration and then it stopped. But when I got home and placed the car in park the vibration started again.
We checked the oil and realized it was low and added a quart and we also added a gas treatment to the gas tank, but the vibration continues and the service engine light is still on. Can you give us some advice?

Hi pam. Sounds like your beamer has fouled a spark plug tune up will most likely fix the prob. However you need to go to the local auto parts store or service dept and have it scanned this will tell you the exact prob. Good luck if I can help please feel free to ask. Billymac

While I agree with the previous posting, the problem is most likely a failed coil and not a spark plug. There is a bulletin from BMW for replacement of all Bosch manufactured coils for Bremi coils. The replacement coils can be visually identified by the gray sleeve, and the faulty coils can be identified by their all black appearance. This is an emissions related issue, and therefore should be covered under the 8 year 80k mile federal mandate. In other words, BMW should fix it for free. Let me know if you need an advocate in your transaction with the dealer.
