I have a 1994 BMW 325 I and the key spun in the ignition and the car did not turn off, there are no check engine lights on. The ignition system appears to be stuck in the "on" position. I ordered the manual tumblers from the dealer and replaced that component and it did not solve my problem. I thought that the only other possibility could be the electric ignition block. Unless I installed them out of positionn and I have checked that and there appears only one way the key tumblers will fit in. I have a Haynes book and my ignition block does not disassemble as the book states. Am I correct in my diagnosis and do you have any other advice on how to further disassemble the ignition block? I realize that the assembly that the tumblers slides in requires special tools to disconnect it from the steering column. I think that the problem is still an electrical one since when I tried to recharge the battery with the tumblers removed and the vehicle was still stuck in the on position as I could hear the fuel injectors priming.

The ignition switch should be under the dash or lower column cover actuated by a rod from the key tumbler assembly. There's no way you could have put the tumbler in wrong. It'll only go in one way.

The ignition lock assembly will require replacement. There are fracture bolts that can be difficult to remove. I suggest going with a Robert Bentley repair manual as they are vastly superior to any other repair manual out there.
