Car is blowing hot air out of the defroster only. Thought this to be a blend door actuator not working. If so, where is this located on this car and is there more than one?
Thanks for any help as I want to fix it on my own if not too involved.

Hi,

The blend air door is responsible for adjusting the air temperature entering the cab. If you can't change the airflow direction, that likely is indicating the mode door actuator may have failed.

Here is the thing. Most vehicles use an electric actuator to move the HVAC doors. In this vehicle, movement is achieved using an engine vacuum provided via a vacuum hose between the intake manifold on the engine and the HVAC controller in the vehicle.

In most cases, if you can't change the airflow direction, there is a loss of vacuum due to a faulty hose. Also, the defroster is the position it will use if there is a problem.

Take a look at this link and let me know if it helps. Also, check under the dash for damaged vacuum hoses or disconnected ones. With the engine running, you may hear a hissing sound if there is a leak.

Let me know what you find.

Thanks for the info, Joe. Checked hoses and found no leak. Could not locate the Vacuum check valve that you talked about. Took the lower cover off on the driver side photo that you sent and saw a bunch of stuff but no vacuum check valve. Could you help me pinpoint it?

Hi,

They should be mounted on the HVAC box. If you look behind the dash where the HVAC controller is located, do you see a vacuum harness plugged into the rear of the controller? If you do, disconnect it, and start the engine. See if there is a hose that has an engine vacuum. Not always but often, the problem is the vacuum hose from the engine.

Let me know.

Joe
