While driving the AVSM OFF LIGHT comes on and the car begins to apply the brakes, front end begins to shake and also the steering wheel shakes and stops the car. This has happened several times at different miles driven. This time the AUTO HOLD and ESC LIGHT came on. I can usually drive the car the next day.

That would be the stability module. It uses sensors on each wheel that are part of the ABS system as well. From the description of shaking in the steering and that the miles vary each time I would start by checking for the codes in the brake system, then see what that shows. I suspect a wheel sensor or wiring fault, but the codes should give you an idea of where to start looking. This will take an OE level scan tool, most of the code readers are not able to read the modules you need.
