2003 Audi A4 Won't Start

The Audi runs wonderfully until I stop and turn off the engine. Then it will not crack again until the engine is completely cooled down. Sometimes not until the next day. We have changed the battery and the thermostat. Where do we go from here?

First we need to get the terminology sorted, are you referring to the engine will not turn over with the key, or is it turning with the key but will not start and run?
