2003 Audi A4 Unable to start

2003 Audi A4 6 cyl Front Wheel Drive Automatic

Audi will not start. When key is put in the ignition the indicator lights on the dash are displaying normally and it chimes when the door is left open, but the car will not start. The keyless entry will not work either, and once or twice in the past two weeks I've not been able to get the keyless entry to work.
Could the problem be related to a dead battery in the key remote or is it more likely an electrical problem with the car?
