I put diesel instead of regular gas in my car, and it broke down last night, is it bad, can I do something about it

You will have to drain the fuel tank and lines, replace the fuel filter and you should not have any problems, use a fuel system cleaner as well, the car may smoke for a while but that should pass, it would be a good idea to service the engine as well.
