2003 Questions for all other cars excessive smoke when start

When starting the engine of my peugeot 307 white smoke pours from the exhaust pipe for the first three to four minutes from cold start. Could you please help. A single woman in distress! Thank you.

Check coolant, as white smoke may be related to a cylinder head problem, brake fluid will cause white smoke, but you would need to have a faulty master cylinder and brake booster for that to occur, Check coolant first.
