2002 Questions for all other cars loud knocking.

Hi, I've got am ldv van (UK) which was running smoothly as I dropped of my girlfriend. The van was on tick over, then suddenly the engine started revving to about 2000 rpm and had an amazingly loud rattling coming out of it. No excessive smoke so not the rings. Will still start but same thing occurs. Any ideas?

Hi there,

I am not that familiar with this car but I will see what I can do for you. A few questions first,

1 Petrol or Diesel.
2. If diesel direct or indirect injection.
3. Is noise constant with engine RPM, or slower/ faster.
Will it change with extra load IE A/C on. Heater fan on high high beam on.
Are you still driving van.
Any change in temp or oil pressure.
Any fault code set.
