1996 Caravan Possible Fuel problem

My van just died on my way home, like it ran out of gas, pulled over and it started right up again, just to die again a short time after, started again, and died again in a few seconds, wouldn't start again after the third time, there was so much traffic I couldn't hear if the pump was coming on when key was turned, does this sound like a fuel pump problem.
