The dash gauge says the vehicle is overheating but the hoses, the radiator cap and the thermostat are all fine. Could there be a bad sensor or wire connection?

Hello,

Just to let you know, you have listed 5.0 as the engine size on your S-10. Since the factory option was a 2.8 v6 I provided diagrams for it. Unless of course it is a K10.

It sounds like you might have a faulty sensor.
As you mentioned the engine was not hot but the message center says engine hot can mean there is a fault with the sensor.
It also might be a good idea to make sure you do not have air in the cooling system.
Remember to work on the engine when it is cool.

I have attached the coolant temperature sensor replacement as well as testing specifications for your reference.

Please let me know of any questions.

Thank you.
