My AC works intermittently. It charged and will produce cold air when idling but when I start driving, the engine surges and it feels like the compressor it disengaging. I can also hear a knocking sound when that happens. Is it the pressure switch, console button or compressor?

Good afternoon.

Do you have a set of gauges to check the pressures when running?

Hard to say without knowing specifics of the pressures. The system could be overcharged.

You need a set of gauges. You can rent them at a parts store and then hook them up to the ports on the AC lines and start the car and turn on the AC.
