Four wheel low not engaging

Hard clunk and failure to engage when shifting to four wheel drive low from two or four wheel drive high only when engine (or other components) is hot. Shifts fine when cold.

It sounds like you have an encoder that is not working correctly. Here are diagrams so you can check it out:
