My car surges slightly when I place my foot on the excellerator

I am driving a Ford 2006 Freestyle and when I press down on the gas pedal, the car will slightly surge forward, then level out. What could cause that?

Could be trans? Does it feel like the trns is not engaging?

Otherwise start with fuel pressure check
