1st make sure you have it in park and then try to turn it off then take it out. It sounds like something down in the shift interlock solenoid is having a problem. Here are diagrams to help you look at the shifter and to check the solenoid.

1 - A/T Shift Control Assembly
2 - A/T Shift Lock Control Solenoid Assembly
3 - A/T Shift Lock Control Solenoid Assembly Connector
4 - Accelerator Pedal Position (APP) Sensor
5 - Accelerator Pedal
6 - Brake Pedal
7 - Brake Pedal Position (BPP) Sensor
8 - Transmission Control Module (TCM)
9 - Transmission Control Module (TCM) Connector
10 - Fuse Block - Underhood

Check out the diagrams (Below). Please let us know what you find.

Cheers

There is a security issue that is preventing starting system to activate.
In my expierence, the lock cylinder has 2 real thin wires and one or both break from age.
You will need a shop with a scanner to confirm.

All of a sudden I turn my car off and:
1. The key is stuck in the ignition (theft light is on) I can remove the key using a tool under the steering wheel. Car runs fine.
2. Fuel gauge registers empty (I know there is almost full tank)
3. Engine temp gauge will not move
4. Traction Control light won't turn off
Do I have one fixable problem or many to address?

If all this happened at once you could have a bad body control module.

Okay. I hate to say it but you need to have the computer scanned to identify where the problem is coming from. It is related to the security system, but without a trouble code, it becomes a guessing game. If you have it scanned, let me know what code they find and I can better direct you.

The way I'm reading this is the ignition switch will not turn all the way off. If this is correct it sounds like you have an ignition switch that has gone out or a shift cable that is coming apart. I would check the cable ends at the transmission and at the shifter. If that looks okay the ignition tumbler is jammed and needs replacement, here are some guide to show you how to do it.

Please let us know what you find so it will help others.

Best, Ken

I have a 2004 Cadillac CTS that wont go into gear. I tried to start it and it wouldnt start, so I looked under the hood and noticed it was a bad connection to the battery. So I wiggled the cables and it powered back up. But then it locked my doors with my keys in it. I was able to get a hanger through there and unlocked it and started it and tried to put it into gear, and it wont go, and my keys wont come out of the ignition and the dash has a lock light on it, and it says the security system needs service. What do I do? Any suggestions?
