Whistling noise between 35 & 45mph
Vacuum hose checked, no leaks
timing belt, motor mounts (2) changed, water pump, drive belts and hose for power steering repaired.
My mechanic says it is a problem with Acuras, porous bearings in tranny.
Can this be repaired, and is there an additive I can add to the transmission to quiet this down

Thanks, Fred

Hi Polumbo,

As you might guess noise problems can be a little tough to get a handle on, but lets give it a shot, Does the noise occur if the car is in neutral and you rev the engine? Or must you be driving it to hear the noise, please get back to me.

Best, Ken

Hey,

Since the problem only happens while driving I would have to say its the transmission, with 150k the trans clutches could be coming apart clogging the internal transmission filter causing the noise. Unfortunately this filter/screen can not be checked unless the transmission is disassembled. Have you tried serving the transmission, drain and fill here is a video on how to do it.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D7bgOjIRMMw its not the same car but follows the same procedure, this might help, don't try an additive I have never seen one work yet. Please let us know how it goes.

Best, Ken
