Also tested all fuses. Will the governor pressure sensor or solenoid not allow the car to start. These are the first two things after it wouldn't start the first time.

Engine Mechanical problem
2004 Jeep Cherokee 6 cyl Four Wheel Drive Automatic

Initial engine light, eventually flashing, and running like very, bad fuel. After two, independent management systerm diagonoses in two states; nobody finds a CAUSE for a # 3 misfire. Mileage is +/- 87,000. The car never actually stalls, and never fails to start; but after driving awhile, it runs VERY ROUGH! Replaced plugs, filters, plug boots, fuel injector and sleeve, and ignition coil. After these changes, auto ran perfectly for over one month.
I am elderly woman who fears being stranded again on I-69 or elsewhere. I see some similar descriptions, for older models, on your site. And they were always referred to service shop for diagnosis. I have done that twice @ almost $1,000.
Please help. Jt

Did you go with cheap spark plugs and plug wires? Or oem quality.

Same goes for the ignition coil

and only number 3 is coming up? Not a random missfire code just for 3 that is correct?

Don't know what brand plugs/wires were used, but they charged ME $4.19 each. The coil was $195.00--is that cheap?

The last service notes say:
"EEC Tests codes 203 and 303 #3 cylinder misfire. Recheck plugs and coil assy installed previouslyl.
Swapped #2 and #3 plugs; and misfiire stays in #3. Check online NAPAFIX hotline. Several possibilities."
No fix.

That p0203 code was extremely HELPFUL! That is a code for a a circuit malfunction with the fuel injector on that cylinder. So we know its fuel related now. If you WANT you can take a noid light they are relativly cheap and hook up in #3 connector for injector and crank car. Light should flash. Put in a diff cylinder to compare it. Flashing should be the same. So do you have the pulse? If not its going to be wire related to the injector. And your going to have to check for +12v on one side key on. If thats there and a voltage drop test is performed and the voltage drop is within specs power wire is good and then your going to have to start looking at groudn wire then computer.

2004 Jeep Grand Cheorkee SE.
When I try to start the vehicle, absolutely nothing happens. The engine does not even begin to turn over. However, if I sit and try to start the vehicle multiple times(minimum 20 times), it eventually starts in the manner in which it should.
The weird symptom that may give some indication as to what the problem is what the gauges are doing prior to attempting to start the vehicle. The gauges will spike up to about 25% (ie, 30-40 mph on the speedomoter) and then immediately go back down. All gauges do this and are in sepuence.
The only other note is that while the vehicle is in this "no start" mode. Is that all electrical functions do not work. Radio, door locks, windows, etc all do not function.
The vehicle has done this to me 3 times, but on all occasions has eventually started up with persistance. However, I would like to fix this asap.
Thanks in advance.

Sounds like either a relay problem or something to do with the alternator. But what you can do is once you get it started go to your nearest autozone or other car parts store chain and have it put on the scan tool for free. And you should get your trouble codes and get back to me

Have the computer scanned for code/s-you have a problem within the engine management system that caused the CEL to turn on-This is your starting point of diagnosis, finding out what's going on.

Started doing my own trouble shooting Read up on a couple of Forms then I checked the basics Made sure I had fuel in the fuel bar which I did then I did a spark check by shoving a screwdriver in my coil pack and having a buddy turn the key felt no shock found out that the Crank Postion Sensor controlled voltage to it so I replaced the CPS and vola it works now
