It sounds like the fuel pump is out here are instruction in the diagrams below to show you how to do the job. The pump has a trap door. Check out the diagrams (Below). Please let us know if you need anything else to get the problem fixed.

No snapping blue spark continue to troubleshoot the ignition system-power input to the coil/coil packs, coil's resistances, cap and rotor, distributor pick-up coil, ignition control module, cam and crank sensors and computer Note: If it doesn't apply disregard it and keep testing

So you are telling me that the problem is not in the fuel pump? I had a friend use a code reader to determine the destination of the problem and we kept getting a "map sensor" reading? Can you tell me what that means?

No spark has nothing to do with the MAP sensor

To determine if there's a problem with the fuel pump-check the fuel pressure with gauge to rule it out

The manifold absolute pressure (MAP) sensor measures intake vacuum, which the PCM also uses to determine engine load. The MAP sensor's input affects ignition timing primarily, but also fuel delivery.

A mechanic is going to charge me over $600.00. Saying that the modular sensor shorted out and needs replaced. Do you think that this diagnosis sounds legitt? I think that he is not being honest with me.

My wife ran into another car at about 10 mph. The auto body shop reported that the fuel pump needed to be replaced as a result. Another mechanic confirmed the need for replacement. Did the accident likely cause the failure? Obviously the car was driven to the scene of the accident.

The accident should have nothing to do with the fuel pump failing. If the pump had really failed, it is coincidence.

Since fuel pumps shut down in collisions for safety reasons, doesn't the possibility exist? For example, I'm told that GMC trucks have a problem with failed fuel pumps in collisions.

No, this make does not have any resetrelay switches. For safety reasons when engine stops, the fuel pump relay would be deactivated by the PCM and when the engine is back running, the fuel pump should work.

However if the fuel pump is not working, it might not be the fault of the fuel pump.
Air bag deployment etc can cause non starting until the PCM has been reset.

Hi sancho_papito and welcome to 2carpros

It should be attached to the bottom of the fuel pump -you can visually inspect it for debris if its clogged-up

Good Luck

Hi I have a hyundai sonata, and it shut down on me while I was driving.I change the fuel pump cuz it seemed like that it was but the car wants to turn on but it wont.I wonder if its something electrical, relay of the fuel pump, or if it is hose of the gas that is clogged.

Cranks but no start condition:

Fuel and Spark:

Get a helper disconnect a sparkplug wire or 2 and ground it to the engine at least 3/16 away from ground -have helper crank engine over-do you have a snapping blue spark? If so-you have a fuel related problem, check the fuel pressure to rule out the fuel filter/fuel pump/pressure regulator and listen to the injector/s are they pulsing or hook up a noid light. No snapping blue spark continue to troubleshoot the ignition system-power input to the coil/coil packs, coil's resistances, distributor pick-up coil, ignition control module, cam and crank sensors and computer Note: If it doesn't apply disregard it.

We needed to replace the fuel pump however it needed to be done that day and no one had a new fuel pump assembly that we could get right away. We got a fuel pump from a 2003 Kia Optima 2.4 liter the only difference is the old fuel pump for the Hyundai has a connector for a fuel temperature sensor that is mounted on the fuel pump assembly. The new fuel pump does not have the sensor/wires so there is nothing to connect into the connector. So this is causing a check engine light and an error code for fuel temperature sensor circuit low input. Is there a way that we can bypass it or just jump the connector or is there a way to relocate the sensor and wires from the previous fuel pump to the replacement fuel pump so that it can be connected and the check engine light will then go off? Any help will be appreciated as soon as possible thank you.

There is no way to by pass it because it does a specific reading. You must install the correct fuel pump.
