1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the precautions section.

2. Relieve the fuel system pressure.

3. Drain the fuel tank.

4. Remove or disconnect the following:

Negative battery cable

Fuel lines

Fuel pump module electrical connector

Fuel tank

Fuel pump module

To install:

1. Install the fuel pump module carefully to ensure the filter and hoses and float rod are not damaged. Use a new O-ring seal.

2. Align the fuel pump module and the fuel tank retainer and push the fuel pump module into the fuel tank retainer. When the fuel pump module is properly engaged, a definite click will be heard engaging 2 locking tabs on the outside of the fuel pump.

3. Install or connect the following:

Fuel pump module locking ring

Fuel tank

Fuel pump module electrical connector

Fuel lines

Negative battery cable

4. Add a minimum of 10 gallons of clean fuel to the tank.

5. Start the engine and check for leaks.

The fuel pump is mounted through the top of the fuel tank along with the fuel level sending unit. The fuel tank should not be filled more than 1 / 3 of the total fuel tank capacity to prevent fuel leakage during fuel pump removal. If the fuel tank is filled beyond this level, the fuel level must be reduced using an approved fuel removal device.
