The car went into as if I put the car in neutral?

Yesterday I was driving my car(02 Ford Focus) and all of a sudden the car went into as if I put the car in neutral, just revving the engine as I was trying to accelerate. I pulled over trying to look for clues and pushed the o/d button on the gear shift. The care was running fine until today when the check engine light came on. What do you think the problem is?

Hello,

It could be a number of reason the vehicle acted the way it did.
It sounds like it could be a transmission issue. Could be that there is a fault code in the module and it is unable to select the correct gear. It could be a faulty solenoid.
First step would be to get the engine light scanned to see what codes the vehicle generated.
This could help us point to the right direction as of what is the reason for this issue.
