If you engage 4wd on a surface that the vehicle can get traction, it will fight you when turning. As far as vibration, has the check engine light ever come on? Have you checked fuel pump pressure?

That is a tough one without driving. The hubs will usually make a noise (click) when bad and engage and disengage. Have you checked all u-joints?
