2002 Ford Expedition Over heating

I have a ford expedition 2002 4.6 two wheel drive it started to run hot one day and it would go up to hot and go back to cold all in a matter of min well it done that for a few days and just stopped and but I changed the thermostat any way and like I said it quit but it started back after I took it on a 4 hr trip and o done fine up their and 4 hrs back but when I got back the next day it starts to do it again so I took the thermostat out and it just barley helped it but it still was doing it and the whole time it had coo lent I'm it I don't know ways the prob I think my water pump may b going out? Or wat

Check radiator for cold spots wen hot if it has any it's bad then have coolant system pressure checked for internal leaks.

Will a blowed head gasket make it do that to go to hot then back to cold

Most of the time no but have it checked anyhow. I doubt it 's a water pump. It could be a cooling fan if you have an electric one. It may not be working so check fuses and relays under hood for it.

I have seen the fan kick on and off so I don't think it's the fan
