I've two recent problems with my 2002 Buick Century. One is the dashboard lights--speedometer, fuel gauge, temperature gauge do not light up when the headlights turn on. The other is the passenger side lever for the heater control seems to be broken and I need to know whether the whole heater has to be replaced.

Based on which climate control you have, it could be nothing more than a cable that is broken. It will run under the dash to the passanger side where the heater core is located. As far as the lights, if they all went out at once, check wiring under the dash to make sure nothing came loose. Also, check for ground straps under the dash that may be disconnected.
