It sounds like what you are talking about is a faulty fuel gauge sender in the fuel tank. The tannk would have to be removed plus the price of the parts which still has to be determined. A wild guess would be in the $300 range if it can be purchased without the fuel pump. If they are sold as all one piece, the price could be higher.
