Car won't crank thought it was the starter so I replaced it and nothing got the battery tested thinking maybe it was dead and the battery is just fine so I checked all the fuses and they all look good car just won't crank and the dome lamps won't work and windows only work when manually locking the doors and holding it to roll them up or down.

One uses the alarm to disable the starter, the other doesn't.

The experts can't help if they don't have enough information.

Like the subject says my 99 jetta wont start or turn over. My wife went to the store and when she got home to drop stuff off. The car would not turn over or start. The odd thing is the radio works but none of the doors will lock or unlock with the switch. The trunk will not even open with the key. I am lost on this one

This is going to sound strange but it sounds like somehow the anti theft system was activated. This will shut down the car for the most part. It looks like there is a relearn procedure but it requires a special scanner. So I hate to say it but is sounds like it may be a dealer fix this time.
I would check the starter relay and such but be careful do not disconnect the battery as this will trigger the anti theft and the theft lock the radio and such and the dealer needs to put in a code to deactivate it if you do that.

But the engine will not turn over.

Do you mean it won't crank at all/nothing or it cranks and w/n start.

My 1999 vw jetta TDI has been giving me prolems starting. It rolls over but won't stay running like there is not enough gas getting to it. I hold the gas pedal down and it sputters but won't stay running. I've changed the glow plugs, got a new battery. I'll donate if you can give me a fix that works. :-)

Thanks Dan

Sir-I tried my very best to come up with the location of the panel but to no avail in my references. For the starter-get a helper to hold key at cranking position and tap on the starter if it engages the engine replace it.
