Okay! I have a 1999 Ford Explorer 4X4 Eddie Baurer Edition. So here's the story! Every once and awhile when I would park my explorer I will can smell alittle fuel just for a few seconds. This weekend I filled up and went to the Lake. I climbed a few sand hills but nothing rough. Well I drove back into town and filled back up at the same station on the same pump. I drove home then drove cross town and my truck started idling rough in Reverse and in Drive. Last time I had the same problem with the idling and I changed the Sparkplugs and it was good. I was wondering if maybe the fuel issue could be related. Also the fuel smell seems to be coming from the driver side passanger door? (Fuel filter/Fuel Pump? Any suggestion.

Plugs are only 6 Months old (Every other plug was blown when I got the vehicle). I did not change the plug wires?

Should I change the fuel filter? I replaced the gas cap.

Also what should my vehicle Idle in Drive? Its currently 500 maybe 550 in drive and just under 1000 RPM's in park and neutral.

I would start by checking for a vacuum leak.

No Vacuum leaks! I think it may be the IAC & TPS but have no clue. The RPM's slightly fluxuate up and down. Down more if I turn the wheel slightly or have my lights, radio and a/c on. It is not the Altenator I had it tested yesterday as a precaution. Also the Spark Plugs were changed 4 months ago not 6 as I stated above as well as a new air filter and oil change 2 months ago (checked receipts). MAF seems to be working. So if it is not on of those my next guess would be the fuel pump? Any suggestions?

The IAC takes care of the idle, so that is where I recommend you focus. As far as the drop in idle speed with the lights and turning, remember, that puts a load on the engine and RPM's will drop.
