Knocking by front left tire

I have a knocking by the left front tire when I begin to accelerate and decelerate. There is no vibration or noise and it doesnt' happen when turning. What is it and is my car safe to drive short distances for the next 4 days until I can get to a mechanic?

Without looking at it, I can't say if it is safe. However, can you feel it in the steering wheel? To me it sounds like a bad CV joint. It could be the inner one and not making a change when turning.
