1998 Mitsubishi Eclipse RPMs rise fast before acceleration

On acceleration rpms rise fast, then go back down and then back up normally. It feels like the engine revs and goes nowhere for a second or two before accelerating. It feels like a slipping clutch but I think its not the clutch because every time I disconnect the battery the problem goes away for a day and then comes back the next day. It passed smog and no check engine light comes on. Starts up every time and does not stall.

Check the volume airflow sensor and the throttle position sensor

After disconnecting the TPS and connecting it back on, there was a change in motor and then the check engine light came on. That probably means the TPS is working.

I scanned for codes last weekend and there was no codes. Ive had this problem for the past 3 months. I scanned it right now again and it gave me P0123 wich is TPS. I think its there because I disconnected the TPS a couple hours ago but didnt reset the computer after.

Try clearing the code/ again if it comes back with the came thing-troubleshoot the TPS

Nothing has changed. It keeps on doing the same thing. After I disconnected the TPS to test it check engine light came up and threw a TPS code. I erased the code and drove it two days and it shows no codes now. It has to be something electrical because the problem goes away for a day if I disconnect the battery and then it comes back the next day. It sounds like the engine builds power but is not delivering power to the wheels like its supposed to.

Did you check the airflow sensor? Could be your transmission is slipping

I replaced the TPS and the hesitation is still there. I'm going see if the fuel pump strainer is clogged because today I heard like if the fuel pump was starving for fuel when I first started it up.
