Overheated

My 1998 mazda 626 LX overheated while driving at 60 mph and turned off I also checked my motor oil dip stick and dosent have water which I think thats the most common thing in overheated cars. Dont now were to start

If its no in the oil and you're idling it for 5mins and starts overheating-start with the thermostat and see what happens-don't work check radiator/water pump-if okay block and pressure test it-

I installed a new engine in my 2001 Milenia and the temp needled would go hot within the first few minutes of driving. Took the radiator out and flushed it backward with garden hose with good pressure. Reinstalled and problem gone. Probably smart to start with thermostat though like rasmataz suggested.
