No brake lights

1998 gmc 1500 the brake lights dont work I just replaced the bulbs and the lights are dim you turn the turn signals on l or r and they blink but so does the other side

You can check actual voltage reading and ground at the rear circuits. Brown wire is voltage for tail light, black is ground, the other color is voltage for brake/turn. Your lower brake lites and turn use the same bulb filament, just not at the same time. The lower brake lites are wired through the turn signal switch. That switch could be the problem.
