My 1998 taurus starts up but when I try to shift into any gear it won't go into that gear. Is it the tranny? Any help thanks

Check if the brake lights are coming on-if so have the shift interlock control system checked out-could be the shift lock control solenoid

Hard to tell? Have a helper work the shifter, while you watch the linkage at the transaxle, under the hood. Tranny fluid ok? Is this an automatic? Just so you know, I'm not a tranny person.

Sorry I should of said that it doesn't move when I try to shift into a gear.
