1996 Oldsmobile Bravada died on road, won't start

On my way home from work when the guages went nuts and loud rattling sound. Tried to start back up still had power but it wouldn't turn over. Only a clunk sound. Thinking it might be the alternator.

Check to see if battery is dead. You need to get battery charged up first, then go from there. It is possible your charging system has a problem. Is your serpentine belt in good shape?
