1996 Jeep Cherokee headlights

1996 jeep cherokee headlights both headlights went out and all we had was brights now brights are gone to changed dimmer switch that was not the problem

Did you check fuse 13--40 amp located in underhood power distribution center? If the fuse has a barespot over each leg, use a voltage tester on the bare spots. If they are both hot, the fuse is good and you have voltage. Next, I'd have to check voltage to and from the headlamp switch, at the moment can't say if that switch is faulty?
