I just replace the whole engine in the truck. Same size and standard OEM parts so far. Until now. I ended up with a short; learned to find out that the wire harness was poor condition and degrading, no good for usage and performance. So I found in great condition at a salvage yard a 97 year wire harness.
So installing a 97 different wiring harness in an 96 model. I have the complete dashboard and computers along with it, the ones, under dash and in engine compartment also along with entire wire harness from the 97 engine, even took the steering column whole, with the cruise control modular.
Now Installing it in the 96 truck.
Is there anything in particular I should do, modify, convert, reprogram or use?
Even more pay attention too.
All the harness clips to plugs, seem to match up except three. The computer is different, so I was going to use the 97 computer, Just one on the Fuel pump, and one on side of block the Crank Sensor.
Will all these things be OK to use;
Since they are from a year new(97) then the truck (96)
Will they work together and be compatible.

I think you will be pulling your hair out on this one. Your issues have just started. You will need complete wiring diagrams from both years to compare and hope it works. I would have got the new oem harness and moved on.
