I have 1996 Ford Contour GL that will not start. What I mean is, whenever I turn the key to start the car it doesn't make a sound, the lights come on, but the car is silent and I'm not sure why. The gear is also stuck in PARK, and I don't know how or why this is suddenly happening. There has been a weather change. The car is also low on engine oil. Please help me out, I'm in desperate need of transportation.

Fill the oil even thought it has nothing to do with the other issues. Make sure the battery is fully charged. Have a helper turn the key to the start position while you check for power at the smaller wire on the starter. You should have 12+ volts. If you do, the starter is bad. If there is no power, check starter relay and the ignition switch.
