I had same trouble on my 88 and was ignition module/coil pack. I got the whole thing used for $25. That was at least 3 yrs ago.

Just to add to this one what kind of spark plugs did you put in the car?Hopefully not platnuims?ALso the first thing I would look at before the coils or module is the wires how old are they?Also those cars are known for getting corroded coil towers where the spark plug wires meet the coil. Sometimes you can clean the tower with a scotch brite pad as long as it doesnt take away so much of the coil tower where the spark plug doesnt snap on tight. You would have to replace the wires of course if that was the case. Let me know what you find.
