I also have a 1995 Mercury Sable that I'm desperatley trying to get back on the road. I got insurance and tag on it and broke the next day. Check engine light comes on after running a few minutes and runs bad with black smoke coming out of tail pipe. It seems like it's not shifting right. It will only do 45mph at 3000rpms. I tried to pull the code with a friends scanner and it wont pull. I've tried jumping the eec and using the scanner. My friends scanner is a snap on with right adaptor and computer card.

The vehicle speed sensor is lower right rear of engine. Could be other issues? Don't know why you can't communicate with computer?

I don't know? Can effect shift patterns. Sounds like it is flooding, not sure why? How long since over-all tune-up?

It's still not showing me a code. When I hook it up this way the check engine light stays on. That's why I got my friends scanner and it still did'nt show anything.

The sti is in your diagram. For the 3.0 the computer is under the hood, passenger side, close to firewall.
