When I start my car it idles for a couple of minutes before staying at a smooth rpm. Than as I am shifting gears when I shift into neutral or come to a complete stop it does it again could this be because the timing is off.

Ok I cleaned it and now it works fine. Now heres where it all went bad so I went to smog the car needed the stock air filter so went to pick n pull got one put it on. The second I turned the car on it didn't sound right but I still took it down the street to get it smogged. About halfway there the car just automatically idled all the way up to the redline and all I heard was a pop and than it kept idling I turned the car off right away and started it back up. When I started it back up it sounded like I was driving a lawn mower as I accelerate you can here it putter. It also idles even worse now and now my car has a burning smell every time I drive anywhere( burning smell seems to be coming from back off engine also have smoke might be something leaking on the exhaust. So what could have caused this Iac valve, stock air filter, ?
