Car was driving perfectly, stopped and turned the car off for about 20min, came back and tried to start the car, dash lights came on but no crank, thought it was a flat battery so tried to use some jump leads, as soon as I tried to crank it with the leads connected the dash lights won't come on and still no crank? Everything else still works i.E lights, radio, door locks. Tested the battery its 12 v and checked the fuses all seem ok.

How did u test the battery? Just because it has 12 volts doesnt mean its good. You need amperage. My guess is the battery is no good. Remove it, and bring it to a parts store and have it properly tested. They will put a sufficient load on it and verify if its good or not. Start here, if you still need assistance, let us know.

Hey, thanks for your reply,
I had the battery tested, it had dropped a cell. I changed the battery and still no dash lights come on and no crank, everything else works, also the power is staying on to the accessories when the key is out the ignition? I checked the fuses again and there all still fine?

So now you have a new/ good battery. Now we can start somewhere. When you take the key out of the ignition what exactly is staying on? This sounds like a pretty serious wiring issue, and we may not beable to get you through without the proper diagnostic equipment. Keep this in mind. I will however do my best to walk you through diagging this if you feel you can tackle it.

A digital multimeter will be required to go further. This way you can let us know voltages, and amperage on select wiring circuits. If this sounds like too much to handle, you may need to bring to a garage.

Hey mate,
With a little more fault finding I located the problem to be with the ignition, I had a new ignition barrel installed and problem solved, I think trying to work the key back an forth when it wasn't starting created this problem.

Thanks for your quick advice
