Ignition switch

Hi guys, just checking in again. I haven't had a chance to work on the truck lately but have a couple questions and updates. If you look closely at the last photo I sent, I was asking what the registration mark was for - not the pin slot for the ignition actuator.
I still don't have the stem piece removed from the ignition cylinder socket. I'm not exactly clear on how the green clip (looks more like a green plate) is removed, or how to remove the metal plate behind it(?).
I have been wondering if the truck might be able to be restored to regular functioning. I ordered another new ignition switch/key assembly. I'm not sure what went wrong on the first try, but I'm wondering if the truck can be made to work normally. I will replace the shift interlock first (also I could use your comments on the shift indicator cable mount piece which popped out of place, I don't know where it goes back into).

If you can provide just a few more details on removing the stuck stem piece I would appreciate it. And I'll check in afterwards. Again thank you all very much.

Hello again.

Yes, the green plastic piece is a clip in piece secured with 2 tabs. It's best to use a small sized type awl or hook to pop it out of place. Once removed the metal piece can be removed.I have used an awl like this to remove the green plastic clip. Picture attached below. It pops right out. Hope this helps and thanks again for using 2CarPros.

Hey guys just a quick check in. I'm finished fishing for the year. I did get a few silvers so the freezer is stocked.

I did as you instructed and removed the plastic piece and metal piece inside the ignition switch housing and removed the piece of the actuator that was stuck inside. Somehow I was able to reassemble the metal and plastic pieces. This is what it now looks like. Let me know how this keyhole should be positioned once I'm ready to install the new ignition cylinder.

I still have to install the new shift lock actuator. I haven't done that yet.

Hello again.

I love fishing! I do mostly the California high sierra's streams. It looks like you have the plastic clip and metal plate installed correctly. When you install the new ignition switch it will lock into place if it's indexed closely otherwise it won't install. Just use a flat blade screwdriver to line it up the best you can. Keep us updated and let me know if you have any further questions on this. Hope this helps and thanks again for using 2CarPros.

Hi guys, sorry this is taking so long. Getting ready for winter here and had other obligations.

But anyway I have some questions I hope you can answer before I continue.

I'm going to drop the column and reinstall the shift interlock device on top of the column, then bolt the column back into place. Now, I have a question. Do I reinstall the ignition actuator module before installing the new ignition switch? If so, what position should the actuator pin be in which I install it? In the "off" position? Or the "on" (not start)? Because if I recall, when removing an ignition switch, I believe the key has to be in the "on" position when removing an ignition switch cylinder. Also I have asked this before but there is an index mark on the Teflon slide bar the ignition switch uses to move the pin on the actuator. Do you know what this index mark is for and if so could you let me know?

Again sorry this is taking so long and as always thanks for all your help.

I'm including a photo of the index mark.

Actually the index mark is on the steering column frame, not the slider. Sorry about that.

Hello again.

Glad to hear back from you. I'm nowhere near winter here in SoCal. Still been 90 degree days with numerous CA wildfires and still in a drought. To answer your question; yes, install the interlock device before the actual switch. Also, when you install it will be in the "on" position so that when you install the switch assembly it will drop right in. Keep us updated with your progress when you have time. Hope this helps and thanks again for using 2CarPros.
