Truck hasn't started since 7/1/2013. It had started making a whistling tea kettle sound prior to the no start. Would whistle when started and stop after a couple of minutes of driving. Additionally it would make a loud rattling sound and then stop almost like something broke loose in the catalytic converter but then would stop. Cat is a year old. Started briefly yesterday for about 5 minutes (long enough to take the video) and will not start again.

What is litre size of vehicle? If it cranks good but won't start, have a helper crank it while you visually check for spark at the spark plugs. If you have spark everywhere, check fuel pressure.

If your fully obd1 compliant, you should be able to check for applicable mil codes, yourself. You use a jumper wire between the A & B terminals at the data link connector. Turn key key just till the dash lites come on, no further. The mil on the dash should start flashing, you count the flashes to get the codes. Your looking for two digit codes.

How long since a tune-up?

4.3 liter. The video link I posted above was the only time I got it started. Someone saw it on my Facebook page and said it sounds like bearings. Wouldn't start for 10 days, started long enough to take the video, and dead again. I should let you know I am a female with next to zero mechanical knowledge. All I know I get off of YouTube and picked from the brains of others. I am going to try to get someone who has the necessary equipment to help me get some codes off it. My friend says her brother may have one, but she is not sure. At that point if he does I'll know more. I just need to troubleshoot as much as I can. It has been a while since a tune-up. Didn't have the cash, needed to put a new roof on my house. And so it goes. So any ideas from you are helpful. Shove me in the right direction and I'll do my "homework" and tinker and watch the vehicle repair videos on YouTube. Appreciate your help.
