1994 GMC 2500 5.7 fuel pump

Why does the fuel pump run for 20seconds with the key in the run position before you try to start the engine. I just replaced the fuel filter and thats when I noticed how long the fuel pump was running. The truck has 163000 miles runs good and starts goods I just want to know if you think it is a fuel pressure regulator is going bad?

Negative, fuel pump turns on when you turn the key on momentarily until it is up to pressure, when you crank the engine and fuel pump comes back on, after changing the fuel filter most likely it stayed on a little longer. That is normal
