When car gets hot, turn engine off and disconnect fans, put hand on rad in several spots, if rad has cold spots then it needs replacing.

You have a sender to turn it on, when it oerheats it should there is also a relay, oneof htose could be bad. Try replacing relay with known good one in underhood box. Is fan getting power? Check that too.
