How do you test the fuel pump on the vehicle?

Depends on what you're trying to test or what problem you're chasing. If it doesn't run at all, check for a bad ground on the gas tank. If it runs, check the pressure with a mechanical gauge. Two pounds low on some GM engines can cause a no-start condition.
