I have a 89 f250 xlt 460 automatic. The truck runs only if you short the solenoid I've replaced the starter the key switch the battery and the ignition switch. I'm running out of ideas please help.

When I turn the key the rod moves so I know its not that. Now that I've replaced the ignition switch it won't run anymore even when I short the solenoid.

IT SOUNDS LIKE A NUTRAL SAFETY SWITCH ISSUE< BUT IF THAT'S OKAY?

TRY

DISCONNECTING THE BATTERY

LOOSENING THE ANCHORS ON THE IGNITION SWITCH

HAVING YOUR PAL HOLD THE KEY INTO THE "START POSITION" (HARD)

DOWN ON THE COLUMN, "YOU" SLIDE THE SPRING LOADED ACTUAL IGN SWITCH TOWARD YOU (HARD)---(COMPRESSING THE SPRING)

LOCK 'ER BACK DOWN, WHEN IT WON'T MOVE ANY FURTHER

THIS SHOULD "CALIBRATE" THE KEY/ L-SHAPED ROD/ TO THE IGN SWITCH

POSSIBLE PROBLEMS

L-SHAPED ROD IS NOT IN THE THE IGN SWITCH HOLE

DUH! YOU FORGOT TO PLUG THE WIRES PACK INTO THE IGN SWITCH

NEUTRAL SAFETY SWITCH PROBLEM

PROBLEM WITH WIRES THEMSELVES

I JUST DID AN IGN SWITCH FOR AN '88 F-100, FOR A FRIEND A WHILE BACK--I TOOK PICS

I AM REALLY DEDICATED TO HELP THE JEEP CJ GUYS HERE. IT'S SORTA MY CRUSADE. REALLY IT'S THE REASON I STARTED ANSWERING IN THE 1ST PLACE

JEEP CJs '76-'86 WORK THE SAME WAY (NEARLY IDENTICAL)--EXCEPT YOU CAN'T DROP THE COLUMN----IT'S ALL "CONTORTION"--"FEEL YOUR WAY". I DROPPED THE COLUMN ON THIS TRUCK, JUST TO TAKE PICS FOR CJ GUYS TO "SEE" WHAT THEY MUST "FEEL" IN ORDER TO CHANGE THE SWITCH (I COULDA DONE THIS TRUCK WITHOUT DROPPING THE COLUMN IN ABOUT FIVE MINUTES, OR LESS)

YOUR TURN

RETURN WITH A SMILE!
