What is the symptom? The inoperative lights have nothing to do with the generator. Does the starter crank the engine? My guess is it doesn't since the lights also don't work. I'd suspect a bad connection at a battery cable first. Also check the smaller negative battery wire to be sure it's bolted tightly to a clean, rust-free spot on the body.
