Car was given to me. It has set for three years. Gas smelled like turpentine. I changed filter and fuel pump and still won't start. I've tried start it with starting fluid and it wants to but never catches. Help anyone! It's a 2.8 not 2.0.

Welcome to 2CarPros.

When you say when using starting fluid it wants to but never catches, is the engine firing? Are you sure it is getting spark? If it is, have you checked to see if the injectors are clean and not plugged?

Take a look through these links and see if they help.

Also, I realize the fuel pump is new, but have you confirmed the fuel pressure at the engine is within spec?

https://www.2carpros.com/articles/how-to-check-fuel-system-pressure-and-regulator

Here are the manufacturer's specs.

Fuel Pressure [1] .................... 284 - 325 kPa (41 - 47 psi)

[1] With the ignition "ON" and engine "OFF" (zero vacuum)

Let me know.

Joe

Did you drain the old gas out and install fresh fuel? If so does it run on starting fluid?

This guide should help us:

Please run down this guide and report back.
